Industrial accidents are a leading cause of injury and lost productive time in the workplace. In 2017, musculoskeletal disorders due to repetitive use, overexertion and heavy lifting was the most common cause for both lost-time and disabling injury claims in Alberta. They accounted for 41.0 per cent of the lost-time claims and 45.3 percent of the disabling injury claims (Alberta Labour, 2018). These injuries are preventable and manifest early in symptoms of joint and muscle tightness and weakness. With WorkStrong’s proprietary functional assessments, we can measure joint and muscle tightness and weakness that, left untreated, will likely lead to injury. Early detection and management of injury are at the core of WorkStrong’s Integrative Healthcare Model.
WorkStrong operates within the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) definition of first-aid intervention to provide education and consultation related to the early signs of musculoskeletal dysfunction. The WorkStrong Injury Prevention Specialist will identify these warning signs and educate the employee on the actions they should take to prevent them from developing into a workplace injury.
WorkStrong’s model is validated by measurable statistics at regular intervals. Some of the reporting includes evidenced based metrics in disability index forms, tracking of strength and mobility employee engagement thru our fitness app, and management review of decreasing work time loss, WCB reporting, and greater productivity.
